Things to Do in Vendee

La Vendée has only a few well-known towns – namely La Roche-sur-Yon, Challans, Les Herbiers, Les Sables-d'Olonne and Fontenay-le-Comte – so you’ll probably find much of your holiday in Vendée is spent in rural and coastal areas. This is no bad thing – these pretty areas are what attract many thousands of both French and non-French holiday makers. And wherever the French are, you know there are some quality attractions and some great food to be enjoyed! From enjoying a simple bicycle ride in the rolling hills around Bocage, to discovering the extensive marshland famed for its diverse wildlife. Or, if history is your thing, Vendée offers plenty – with a multitude of abbeys, churches and chateaux to explore through out the region. There are also plenty of modern attractions to enjoy too – adventure parks, aquariums and museums can be found across the region.

Cycling in Vendée

The gentle green countryside of Vendée is one of the big attractions of the region, and getting around it by bicycle is one of the best ways to see it. There are over 800km of cycle track at present, with more being added every year. As well as the delightful interior tracks, there are hundreds of kilometres of track that run alongside or near the coast, providing fantastic views across the sea. There are lots of excellent picnic areas, and plenty of signposts mean that the chances of getting lost are minimal!

Vendée Beach Life

The many excellent beaches of the Vendée region have attracted visitors from across the world for centuries, so coming to the region and not experiencing them is a bit of a shame! Most have Blue Flag status – which means they’re very clean – and nearly all have soft, golden sand. Whilst here you can try out windsurfing, surfing, sailing and a number of other fun activities. For a bit of extra tranquillity, take a boat to the island of Noirmoutier, where lots of beautiful coves and sand dunes make for the perfect beach day!
