Beautiful farmhouse in rural France

The Dovecot is a charming traditional converted farmhouse with a tasteful modern interior. There is a large, mature garden on three sides mainly laid to lawn with various fruit trees and shrubs The house is in a small hamlet in a quiet rural area but conveniently situated for access to the RN10 (route nationale - Poitiers/Angouleme road).

From the front door you enter a modern kitchen/dining room with central kitchen island. The well-equipped kitchen has a double aspect to the front and rear garden as does the large living room with TV and Wifi. Traditional features include fireplaces with log-burners in both the kitchen and lounge. The lounge has the original limestone floor.
Al the rooms are large, bright, airy and comfortable. In the hottest times of summer, the house remains cool thanks to its very thick stone walls.
In the main hall there is a downstairs bathroom with full bath and shower (the washing machine is also here).

The beautiful oak staircase leads to a large landing, a gallery area and 2 double bedrooms with en-suites (washbasin and shower cubicles) There are a further 2 double bedrooms in the gite which is attached to the main house via the barn. In the barn there is a second fridge, a freezer and 4 bicycles for guest use. Garden furniture and a large outdoor table umbrella are also stored there.

The immediate surroundings are particularly suited to cycling as it is very flat, quiet and makes for pleasant rides along the sunflower fields during summer. Otherwise just go for a stroll along the numerous small lanes which criss-cross the hamlets in the area.

Outside the front door is the best place for alfresco meals and barbecues in the shade of the lime tree. There is no light pollution so the night-time sky is splendid with its thousands of stars.

A short drive away there is a small retail park for all your shopping needs but the local town of Sauze-Vaussais offers smaller shops, like the bakery and various patisseries and small restaurants.
In the small towns of Civray, Ruffec and Melle, there are weekly markets to get local, fresh produce. Other small towns in a 15-minute drive away have chateaux and interesting churches etc (Verteuil sur Charente, Brux, Chef Boutonne)
