Farmhouse with heated pool with rural views (sleeps 8-10) and has wifi
La Noisetterie is a lovely renovated farmhouse retaining its rustic charm. It is on the edge of a hamlet, nestled in the hillside of a secluded valley stretching southwards to the Pyrenees Mountains. The area is characterised by valleys interspersed by ridges of hills known as Magnoacs. Sunflowers and maize are grown and irrigated from the rivers flowing north from the mountains. Deciduous woods adorn the ridge-like hills with sweeping views towards the Pyrenees mountains.
A key feature of the property is how well the different areas of the house connect together with each other and the outside spaces. The kitchen, at the heart of the home, leads to the dining areas, either inside or al fresco, on the sunny East facing terrace or in the shade of the barn. Steps from the barn lead up to a secluded swimming pool area which is semi enclosed by the buildings and landscaping. This is the best spot for an aperitif as the sun goes down. The pool is heated to 27 degrees which entices you into the water whatever the weather.
The house has been sympathetically renovated and retains a very homely feel. It is surprisingly spacious and the layout for the bedrooms works well if two families are staying. There are three double bedrooms (one with a super king-size four poster bed, another with a king-size bed and en suite shower room and the third with a double bed and bunk beds), plus a twin bedroom (zip and link beds so can be made into superking sized double bed if requested). Upstairs there is a family bathroom (as well as the en suite shower room) and downstairs there is a shower room and laundry which is convenient to use after swimming.
The kitchen is fully equipped and has views across the valley. The sitting room has three sofas facing the wood burning stove. There is a large TV with a selection of DVDs to watch. There is wifi but, being rural France, it cannot always be relied upon.
Castelnau-Magnoac is a pretty market town which is 7 minutes drive away. It is well served with a weekly market, a supermarket, a fruit & vegetable shop, 3 boulangeries and a boucherie. There are various restaurants in the area with the closest one being 200m from the house which serves delicious thin pizzas. The mountains are in easy reach for hiking, cycling and water activities.
My husband and I bought this house in 2004 after holidaying in the area. We spent a year living in the house whilst renovating it and our two children went to the local primary school. We love the area for the tranquility and the pace of life which makes one feel one has stepped back in time. We have rented the house out (when we are not using it) for many years but are new to Cheznous. A lovely local English family do the changeovers and can help you with any local knowledge or other needs. Our former guests comment that it feels like a home rather than a holiday rental, which it is! For us, we take great pleasure in guests enjoying our rural idyll.
