Situated in the Cotentin Peninsula with much to explore: rocky coastline, miles of empty beaches, flora, fauna, ports and seaside resorts, beautiful for walking, running or cycling.
Enjoy the experience of Normandy rural living in gite Yvette, with full access to Wi-Fi, close to the village boulangerie and with the owners on site. Yvette sleeps a max of 6 people and is newly renovated. Downstairs: open plan living room - sofa bed sleeps 2, dining room and kitchen (cooker, hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine). There is also a bathroom downstairs. Upstairs: a second bathroom, a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. Bed linen and towels are supplied and power is included. The pretty garden has several cider apple trees. The area is renowned for its Normandy horses and the neighbouring Equestrian Centre is a must for lovers of horse riding.
Excellent access to all major routes enabling easy exploration of both Normandy and Brittany. Nearest town is Villedieu-les-Poeles (10 minutes drive, intact after World War II) it is famous for the copper trade, shops here sell copper and brass items and there are workshops and museums to visit. Villedieu is also home to one of the only 2 bell foundries in France, worth a visit. Tuesday is market day in Villedieu and the streets are taken over by many stalls selling local produce.
It is a short trip to some of France’s most stunning attractions, Le Mont St Michel (48 mins), an enigmatic island crowned by a medieval monastery. Also the coastal town of Granville (36 mins) with views of the Bay of Mont St Michel from its fortified headland. Here you will find fishing fleet and yacht marinas and many seafood restaurants. You can book day trips to the Channel Islands and the Isle of Chausey from Granville. Bayeux (59 mins) is a “must see”, with its cathedral and fabulous historic centre as well as its world-famous UNESCO-listed tapestry depicting the Norman conquest of England in 1066. The D-Day landing beaches (1 hour 10 mins) with many sites, memorials and museums relating to the 6th June 1944 and to the battle of Normandy that followed. Also the floating harbour in Aromanches.
Caen (53 mins) has a castle, two abbeys built at the request of William the Conqueror, and a pleasant historic town. The imposing medieval Falaise Castle (1 hour 9 mins), birthplace of William the Conqueror and the town are close. If you travel South into Brittany very close to the border with Normandy you will find the town Fougeres (53 mins) with its Chateau Medieval Quarter. Further into Brittany is St Malo (1 hour 13 mins), meander through the cobbled streets and visit the many shops selling locally produced goods or take a bracing walk around the ramparts and have lunch in one of the many restaurants.
