Spacious and full of character beautiful hide away, just for couples
Steeped in battlefield history, Château de Lucy now sits in tranquillity on the banks of the River L'Oise, an easy 2 hour drive from Calais, Dunkirk or Zeebrugge.
Occupied by Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany and Prussia during the First World War and German Officers during the Second World War, the Château has lived through turbulent times.
Now, while we live in the main part of the Château, the orangery is an ideal place to come to explore and sample a true taste of France, easy enough to get to, but far enough into France to be truly French.
Surrounded by the river and ancient trees, including two very rare tulip trees, ginkgo balboa, Scots pine, oak, ash, yew, horse chestnut and walnut. Secluded but not isolated, this is a truly magical place where you can unwind and de-stress to the sound of song birds, wood peckers and owls.
Up five stone steps from the front terrace, you are at the orangery's own private entrance. The impressive oak door and windows which run the entire length of the orangery have recently been restored by a local artisan craftsman; holding the history and character, they flood the orangery with sun and warmth.
With direct access to the front terrace, the brand new oak kitchen has all modern appliances, including touchscreen induction hob, built in oven and integrated dishwasher. The table for two has fabulous views of the grounds and riverbank or if you want, you can nip out to the terrace where you will find more tables and chairs.
The open plan living area has plenty of room for relaxing, the large windows making it a perfect place to sit and read or there is a 32" tv, should you wish to catch up with your favourite programmes.
The spacious bedroom is equipped with an impressive king size bed, antique armoire and plenty of storage. The fabulous windows giving views of the grounds at the front of the chateau.
The shower room, like the kitchen is new and modern, having a walk in shower, vanity unit with storage underneath, w.c. and heated towel rail.
Outside, on your terrace, table and chairs, sun loungers and a gas barbecue are included for your use and you are very welcome to enjoy any part of the nine acres that Château de Lucy sits in.
The river L'Oise which runs around the edge of the property is ideal for trout fishing, or if you are a carp fishing fan, there are well stocked carp lakes about 2kms away. If fishing doesn’t appeal to you, you can always go for a wander along the river bank towards the Mill at Lucy or use the 2 bicycles that we have available to explore the tow-paths and cycle routes that abound in this area.
Ribemont is a small market town rich in history and culture, with large supermarket and petrol station, boulangeries and cafe tabacs, a pizza parlour, pharmacy, florists and hairdressers. The Mouton Noir is a restaurant within walking distance where you can get a good meal at a reasonable price.
