La Maison du Vigneron in Maine-et-Loire, a cottage in Loire: La Maison du Vigneron exterior

Village farmhouse, charmingly restored, surrounded by vineyards, nr Saumur

La Maison du Vigneron is situated in the in the historic medieval village of Le Puy Notre Dame which is a charming wine-making village. It is a great base for local wine-tasting and sight-seeing, being well placed to visit the beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley and other places of interest. On your arrival, you will be invited to share an aperitif with the owners when you can discuss places to visit and things to do. There are lots of activities to do in the area, including walking, cycling, canoeing, horse-riding, bird-watching, fishing and golf.
The village has a few shops, a small market, two restaurants and a bar tabac, just a short walk away. You can buy fresh croissants and baguettes from the bakery; sun tan lotion from pharmacy, stamps from the bar tabac; dine out in a restaurant or have a drink at the bar. A choice of supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants is available in two towns each only a 10 minutes’ drive away.
This fully restored, traditional 19th century character farmhouse is perfect for families or couples, with two generously proportioned bedrooms. One has a double bed and the other twin beds, both with modern en-suite bathrooms with power showers. They will easily accommodate four adults and a travel cot can be added for a small fee.
The gite looks out onto a spacious, enclosed courtyard with rose and herb gardens, a lawn, trees and secure, private parking. Many of the outbuildings which date back to the 18th century were used for wine-making.
From the courtyard, you go into the open plan country kitchen and the lounge/dining area with beams. The lounge area has a comfy sofa, a coffee table and an armchair and a television with French and English channels and DVD/CD player and a fireplace. The kitchen is fully fitted and well equipped including a gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. There is a dining table and chairs which can seat up to six people. French doors open out from the kitchen onto the patio where there is a parasol, table and chairs, where you can enjoy al fresco dining.
At the end of the courtyard is a large secret garden and orchard, which is an ideal place to enjoy a glass or two of your favourite drink as you watch the sun set over the vineyards beyond. You can laze about on the sun loungers and read, relax or have fun in the gardens. In the summer when the temperature rises, there is a small plunge pool to cool off in.
In cooler seasons, there is electric central heating throughout. Books, DVDs and games are available to borrow. Just across the courtyard, there is a shared utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board.
Towels and bed linen (with100% cotton sheets) are changed on a weekly basis. You will receive a complimentary welcome pack with a few basic food items and cleaning materials.
There is free WiFi internet access. The gite, courtyard and grounds are all non-smoking and no pets allowed.
