The Little House in Dordogne, a cottage in Dordogne and Lot: The Little House exterior

Beautifully restored medieval village cottage

Imagine staying in this beautifully renovated Little House in the medieval quarter of Salignac-Eyvigues, 17 km from Sarlat. 'Mod-cons' have been added, so you can relax in comfort while enjoying the atmosphere of the 13th c. village and property.
This historic property was restored specifically for two adults with a single queen sized bed. The second floor central living and dining quarter is accessed from a wood staircase.
The house boasts a large patio with BBQ overlooks the Castle of Salignac which has remained in the family since it was constructed in the 10th century, and the enigmatic Crusaders or Templar Cloister. The Salignac village shops provide ample provisions and there are 2 weekly outdoor markets in the village square. Local restaurants serve a variety of amazing entrees with outdoor dining.
Nature walks start at the front door, and you can treat yourself to relaxing Holistic and Swedish Therapy provided by an English speaking massage therapist
Connect with full WIFI and satellite TV.
Take a stroll in our village and follow in the footsteps of medieval merchants, shop owners, artisans and farmers. Our own house was once a blacksmith's.
Located in Dordogne’s Golden Triangle, and at the heart of The Perigord Noir, nearby are walking trails with wild orchids; the numerous prehistoric caves with spectacular artwork in Lascaux, Montignac, and Font-de-Gaume; the troglodyte caves at La Roque Saint- Christophe, and Les Eyzies; and Dordgone River cruises in traditional Gabarre boats which depart from near the cliffs of La Roque Gageac.
For the history lover, the area includes over 40 castles, most from the Hundred Years’ War in the 14th century, including Beynac, Castlenaud, and fortified churches with ancient frescos and bastides such as Paulin, Domme, and Monpazier. Little jewels such as the honey-stoned village of St Crepin with its 16th c Manor de Lacypierre, and Romanesque 11th c church, and St Genies with its lauze tiled roofs are less than 15 minutes away. The formal Gardens of Eyrignac are less than 5 km with a fine restaurant.
Historic Sarlat (17 km) the central town of the area boasts a famous bi-weekly market in the ancient medieval square, cultural activities and every shopping need can be filled there. They maintain a fine Tourist Office for the region as well. For day trips there are Bergerac, Perigord, and Bordeaux, as well as the Medoc with hundreds of vineyards, and Rocamadour.

Food is taken seriously here, relying heavily on local produce, duck, wine, walnuts, and truffles. We recommend the books of Martin Walker set in the region for a wonderful introduction to the Perigord. They are available at the Domme bookstore or here
