Stunning top floor of 18th Century Château, 9 acres of woodland & riverbanks
Steeped in battlefield history, Château de Lucy now sits in tranquillity on the banks of the River L'Oise, an easy 2 hour drive from Calais, Dunkirk or Zeebrugge, accessed via St Quentin at Junction 10 from the A26 from Calais.
Occupied by Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany and Prussia during the First World War and German Officers during the Second World War, the Château has lived through turbulent times.
As a reminder of those turbulent times, we have found a book of prayers and a book of poems dating from 1916 which were issued to German soldiers. We also have a pill box (machine gun fortification) about 20 yards from our kitchen door which was built to protect the Château in the Second World War.
We have completely renovated the top floor of the Château, which is now a lovely three bedroomed apartment. It is a rather special place to come and relax and leave the stresses and strains of the rat-race behind.
With leather sofas, a 37" t.v., blu ray player, a high quality kitchen area with built in touch sensitive ceramic hob, inset oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer, three bedrooms (one with a kingsize four poster bed) and a shower room, this makes an ideal place for short breaks or longer holiday. Passionate about our beautiful environment, we use biodegradable cleaning products and organic welcome packs where possible.
The ground floor terrace at the front of the chateau is available for your use with table, chairs and sun loungers, however you are very welcome to enjoy the barbecue, tables and chairs or the above ground splash pool at the rear of the château or explore the grounds that surround the château.
The river LOise which runs around the edge of the property is ideal for trout fishing and carp lakes are between 2 and 5 miles away or if fishing doesn’t appeal to you, you can always wander along the river bank towards the Mill at Lucy.
Ribemont, a small market town rich in history, is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive and has a small museum, large supermarket and petrol station, artisan boulangerie, restaurant, pizza parlour, pharmacy and tabac.
Just outside the grounds of the chateau runs the small tourist train, taking in the scenery of the LOise valley. From time to time, the dining car, reminiscent of the Orient Express steams along the tracks, offering luxury dining of a bygone age.
The City of St Quentin, 15kms from Lucy,is best known for the Basilique and with 60,000 inhabitants is a bustling City full of artisan and designer shops, street cafes and beautiful Gothic architecture. A large market is held every Wednesday and Saturday morning off the town square.
Parc Asterix and Disneyland, Château de Pierrefonds (from the TV series Merlin) and dozens of other attractions are also within an hour or so to drive, paintball, golf, tennis are all within 5kms. You can also discover the river L'Oise by kayak with a half or full day river tour from St Quentin.
