La Petite Maison is a pretty, traditional French cottage in the heart of the wooded countryside of the Parc Naturel Périgord-Limousin. The hamlet of Groslier is 4 kms from the village of Champsac, where you will find a bar, baker, post office/general store and wine merchant and 9 kms from Châlus, a small town with shops, restaurants & bars as well as the Chateau Chabrol where Richard the Lionheart was mortally wounded.
Upstairs in the comfortably furnished cottage there is one double bedroom, one single bedroom with space for second single bed/cot & a modern bath/shower-room. Downstairs there is a double bed settee, woodburner, English Freeview TV & a separate well-equipped kitchen. Linen, towels and pool towels provided. The large, enclosed garden has a heated 10x5m salt-water pool, open from mid-May until at least mid-September and shared with the owners, who live in the attached converted barn. A barbecue and outdoor furniture are provided for guests. There is a large fenced grassed area with play equipment and games as well as a woodland area for children to explore.
Limoges, well-known for centuries for the manufacture of fine porcelain, has many interesting historical monuments, including the magnificent St Etienne Cathedral, which dominates the city with its museums, art galleries, aquarium and shops. There are many old winding streets to explore and restaurants and bars in which to relax and watch the world go by.
Oradour-sur-Glane: This Village of Martyrs is maintained in the same state as it was left on June 10th 1944 after 642 men, women and children were murdered by the Waffen SS. There is also the Resistance Museum in Limoges for those interested in World War 11 history.
Parc Reynou Zoo: 25 hectares of landscaped park just on the outskirts of Limoges.
There are weekly markets in the surrounding villages as well as regular evening farmers’ markets in the high season , where you can buy, cook and eat local produce.
Walking and cycling are a pleasure in the quiet, undulating countryside and the owners can advise visitors on local routes. There are adults’ and some children's cycles to borrow. Helmets are not provided, but obligatory in France for chldren up to 12.
Nearby lake fishing, canoe/kayak river trips.
Adventure Course, giant zip-wire and other activities at the nearby Espace Hermeline at Bussière Galant offers a challenge for all ages ( www.espace-hermeline.com), free tennis court (rackets and balls provided) in Champsac. Swings, trampoline, slide, ball games, table tennis, badminton in enclosed garden.
