Le Bournet in Dordogne, a cottage in Dordogne and Lot: Le Bournet exterior

Lovely farmhouse in stunning rural setting

Le Bournet is a beautiful old farmhouse in a secluded location deep in the heart of the countryside yet only ten minutes by car to the bustling market town of Riberac on the Dronne river, with its bars, restaurants, swimming, canoeing and tennis. Approached from a one kilometre drive through sunflower fields, the house is situated on a gently sloping hillside surrounded by fields and woods. It has been a family holiday home from home for over forty years and is a truly magical place offering complete privacy and relaxation. The house is solidly built of stone and has original features such as exposed beams, winding wooden staircase and old stone basins. It is 300 years old but offers wireless internet and Satellite TV. Upstairs are three bedrooms adorned with oil paintings by the artist owner and a beautiful new bathroom with a walk-in shower, Japanese washlet and lovely views across the valley from the claw's foot bath. On the ground floor, a large sitting and dining room, well-equipped kitchen and adjoining cellar. The house has a south facing terrace overlooking and surrounded by woods, sunflower and cornfields, with views of distant farmhouses and a church steeple. The well-maintained grounds of around two acres include a majestic old barn (usually with resident owl), bergerie, fig, damson, walnut and cherry trees, specimen shrub and climbing roses. An ideal base from which to explore the local countryside, visit the charming market towns, Romanesque churches, Brantome, and slightly further afield, the chateaux and prehistoric sites of the Dordogne valley.
