Charming, well modernised cottage near the coast. Les Marronniers is situated in a two-acre garden in a quiet hamlet close to the town of Desvres on the edge of a beautiful valley, only 40 minutes drive from the Channel Tunnel and Calais ferries.
With hardly any steps to climb our cottage is ideal for wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility. Set in rolling countryside (part of the regional nature park), it is perfect for walking and cycling in nearby quiet lanes.
The peaceful garden has lovely views on woodland and “La Vallée de la Course”. Entirely private, it is a heaven for wildlife and birdsong. At night the skies are free from light pollution making them fabulous for watching the stars. The large, south-facing patio is perfect for bbq, “alfresco” eating, spending a day lounging around or for children playing (swings in the garden).
There are lovely sandy beaches at Hardelot, Wimereux (20 minutes drive) & Le Touquet (50 minutes). Close by are the medieval towns of Montreuil, St-Omer and Boulogne with their paved streets and rich English history. Nausicaa in Boulogne is home to the magnificent National Sea Life Centre. We also warmly recommend the new branch of “Le Louvre Museum” in Lens (1 h drive). You can visit the memorials of World War I and WW II sites including “La Coupole”, plus Azincourt and Crecy all at a short driving distance.
For activities, there is golf, windsurfing in Wimereux, fishing in Desvres plus leisure centre at Boulogne (ice rink/pools/flumes). Foodies will enjoy going to Montreuil and Boulogne as they offer a range of wonderful restaurants.
The cottage has a cozy feeling with a well-fitted kitchen/diner, washing machine, microwave, fireplace and free WIFI with Smart TV/video (English). The bathroom has a bath with a shower over. It offers one double bedroom and one bedroom with 2 singles with a choice of duvet or blankets. Heating is electric plus a wood-burning fire. The outhouse has with freezer iplus plenty of space to store bikes, golf clubs, etc.
We have let our cottage for 15 years so we know what our visitors enjoy and we have published a short bespoke guide to the area to help our visitors organize their stay.
Prices vary from £300 a week in winter to £430 in the summer. Minimum stay in the off-season is 2 days and reasonably priced (£55 per night mid-week - short stay are not in peak season).
