More About Vendee
There is a range of seaside resorts and activities waiting to be discovered, which are perfect for family holidays and romantic getaways for couples looking for both long and short stays. As one of the sunniest places in France there are nearly 2,500 hours of sunshine a year and long, hot, dry summers, making Vendee villas very popular. The rest of the year is also mild with pleasant autumn and spring seasons and mild to cool winters. Vendee’s coastline is home to a variety of water-sports such as windsurfing, scuba diving and catamaran sailing, perfect for seeking thrills or expending energy while enjoying the beach. Once you’ve selected your Vendee holiday accommodation, all of this and much more is within easy reach. Holiday villas in Vendee are in the perfect position to enjoy the many gastronomic delights of the area. With the département being coastal, there is a rich variety of ocean delights such as oysters, sardines, mussels, sole and tuna.
With more than 200km of coastline – much of which is made up of sandy beaches – having fun on and by the sea is likely to play a big part in a holiday in Vendée. Whether your idea of a good time is relaxing in the sun and building sandcastles with the kids, or whether it’s trying something more physical such as windsurfing, surfing and kayaking, you can try one – or all – until your heart’s content. Add to this the many great places to enjoy walking, hiking and cycling, and you begin to see why so many people love this unique part of France. And then there’s the history, the theme parks and the wildlife-rich marshlands. Let us show you the best bits...
Things to Do in Vendee
La Vendée has only a few well-known towns – namely La Roche-sur-Yon, Challans, Les Herbiers, Les Sables-d'Olonne and Fontenay-le-Comte – so you’ll probably find much of your holiday in Vendée is spent in rural and coastal areas. This is no bad thing – these pretty areas are what attract many thousands of both French and non-French holiday makers. And wherever the French are, you know there are some quality attractions and some great food to be enjoyed! From enjoying a simple bicycle ride in the rolling hills around Bocage, to discovering the extensive marshland famed for its diverse wildlife. Or, if history is your thing, Vendée offers plenty – with a multitude of abbeys, churches and chateaux to explore through out the region. There are also plenty of modern attractions to enjoy too – adventure parks, aquariums and museums can be found across the region.
We want you to enjoy the best that Vendee has to offer and so here's a small selection of our favourite things to see and do;
Puy du Fou
What do you get if you combine a whole load of French history with a theme park? You get Puy du Fou, where even those who haven’t been amazed by anything for years are sure to find their jaws dropping at this spectacle-laden extravaganza: Viking long boats rising out of the water, swashbuckling Musketeers and chariot racing – these dramatic re-enactments are sure to delight the youngest and the oldest in your party!
Cycling in Vendée
The gentle green countryside of Vendée is one of the big attractions of the region, and getting around it by bicycle is one of the best ways to see it. There are over 800km of cycle track at present, with more being added every year. As well as the delightful interior tracks, there are hundreds of kilometres of track that run alongside or near the coast, providing fantastic views across the sea. There are lots of excellent picnic areas, and plenty of signposts mean that the chances of getting lost are minimal!
Vendée Beach Life
The many excellent beaches of the Vendée region have attracted visitors from across the world for centuries, so coming to the region and not experiencing them is a bit of a shame! Most have Blue Flag status – which means they’re very clean – and nearly all have soft, golden sand. Whilst here you can try out windsurfing, surfing, sailing and a number of other fun activities. For a bit of extra tranquillity, take a boat to the island of Noirmoutier, where lots of beautiful coves and sand dunes make for the perfect beach day!
