Sleeps six in spacious house with wide terrace overlooking lawn & river
La Vieille Maison was probably the dower house to the original chateau. Like Le Manoir, it has very spacious rooms, and a lovely outlook across the lawn towards the river. It has been modernised to some extent but retains much of its original rustic character.
Ground floor:
Large kitchen with tiled floor, old fireplace & original stone sink, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and larder, large wooden table & door out to wide, flowery eating terrace.
Large wood panelled sitting room with wood stove in old fireplace, comfortable seating & long oak refectory table.
First floor:
Two large pretty bedrooms, one with double bed and en suite salle d’eau (washbasin and bidet),
One with twin beds and en suite bathroom (bath, washbasin and WC, with door through to the salle d’eau)
Second floor:
Attractively beamed but smaller attic twin bedroom with a sloping
ceiling. Adjacent shower room with wash basin and WC.
The Vieille Maison has a long, flowery, stone eating terrace with views across the lawn to the river. It, like the Manoir, has sole use of the lawn in front of its house and its terrace, has access to all the rest of the park and rivers, and shares the pool and the laundry room if there are tenants in either of the other two houses.
A warning that we hope will not discourage you from coming:
Like the Manoir, La Vieille Maison is not grand, but for a peaceful holiday in an idyllic place, Thoires is excellent. But both houses are old and in the middle of the country, and though they're comfortably furnished and have reasonable modern facilities, the bedroom floors are bare wood with rugs, not fitted carpets, and if there’s a storm the lights may occasionally go out! We try to keep the wildlife at bay, but can't guarantee that a fieldmouse, a vole or spider may not occasionally visit. We certainly don’t want to discourage you from coming, but we hope that you'll visit Thoires for what it is, not for what it is not and cannot be.
We don't like rules, but prefer that tenants do not smoke inside the house, and definitely not in the bedrooms.
Prices include linen, electricity, bikes etc, but exclude small per capita charge for more than 2 people.
