La Cretouffiere is a secluded and picturesque rural hamlet built in stone, set in the quiet department of Mayenne (southern Normandy/ eastern Brittany) Pays de la Loire, consisting of several imaginatively restored comfortable cottages, sharing a tiled 4m x 6m outdoor pool (available late June/early Sept) contained within its own enclosure away from the cottages.
Maison Clement (sleeps 2/4 or up to 6 including the optional Annexe) is a renovated farm cottage at one end of a long barn which has been thoroughly modernised but externally unchanged. It has a good-sized living/dining room with exposed oak beams, comfortable seating, a wood burner, English Satellite TV with video/DVD player and CD/cassette player. A Wireless Broadland connection is generally available from this cottage. Leading off from the kitchen is a compact downstairs shower room with toilet and basin; the stairs lead up to an airy landing area with clothes-hanging recess. There are three bedrooms: one double and two singles each having a rooflight and oak beams. 'Clement' shares a washing machine with 'Kayte' in the pool building. The grounds include the pool, children“s' play area, swings, central BBQ.
THE ATTACHED ANNEXE provides supplementary 2-person accommodation and is an ideal self-contained small unit for friends, older adolescents or grandparents. If required, the weekly cost of 'Clement' increases by £125 in High Season, £100 at other times. Of open-plan with kitchenette in the corner of the living/dining room, a shower room/toilet, the stairs lead up to the bright upper level with charming use of space and built-in double bed. With pastoral views over fields to the rear beyond the pool, it faces the central courtyard with BBQ and tree-shaded area.
An excellent base from which to explore the medieval towns, castles and markets of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire. Ideal for cycling, rambling, riding, bird-watching, or simply relaxing. Only 2 hrs drive from Caen or St Malo, less than 3 hrs from Cherbourg & Le Havre, 3.5 hrs from Dieppe. Helpful resident British owners. Special rate for couples out of high season. Places of Interest: Le Mont St Michel - one of the most visited places in the world for good reason, so miss the crowds by going early or after dark. We are near enough to make this practical as the journey is easy at just over an hour. Not far beyond is the fortress town of St Malo, located on the beautiful Emerald Coast with clean sandy beaches and sparkling water. Just inland is the bustling historic town of Dinan, and similar architecture is at Fougeres (30 mins) or Vitre (45 mins) Another favourite is Bayeux, a pretty cathedral town with its famous tapestry, and beyond that the WWII Landing Beaches. Within 5 mins walk are Les Renaudies Parc Floral (open May to September) a stunning garden.
