Well designed & presented flat. Private pool in a beautiful setting.
Designed for a couple, this pleasant ground floor apartment enjoys superb views over natural unspoilt countryside with abundant flora and fauna. Crafted from the lower floor of the owners' property, it has been designed to offer maximum privacy, with an independent entrance, private pool (for your use only) and large exclusive garden, plus further access to extensive grounds, consisting of 20 acres of woodland and meadow, abundant with wildlife. On hot days the apartment provides a retreat with a comfortable temperature for those who may want to avoid too much sun.
There are few properties of this type in this part of France. La Balme Basse is eminently suitable for couples of all ages and interests.
This is an ideal holiday venue should your interests lie in culture, history, nature, activities, food and drink or simply relaxation. Why not try them all?
We have walkways around the property where you might glimpse deer, red squirrels, badgers, wild pigs, pine martins, lots of bird life and at the right time of year many wild orchids and wild flowers.
La Balme is well-situated between the Lot and Dordogne rivers with easy access to the many places of interest (425 sites of historic and cultural interest in the the Lot) the region has to offer, including such diverse activities as canoeing on the Dordogne or sampling the rich Cahors wines from local vineyards. Many of our guests are keen cyclists and find the road conditions ideal for their sport. Although all these activities are within 40 minutes drive, La Balme is not troubled by excessive traffic.
The principle places of interest are Sarlat, Rocamadour, Domme and St Cirq Lapopie. Cahors (25 minutes) and Gourdon (15 minutes) are both medieval towns well worth visiting. As the area was fought-over in the hundred years war and at other periods there are many chateaux, one of the best being Castelnaud. Our village of Peyrilles also boasts a medieval chateau directly linked to Richard the Lionheart. This chateau is unique, as it is owned by the commune and is under restoration - if you are interested we can give you a guided tour (no charge). Caves/grottos are also a prominent feature of the area and the famous Lascaux caves are about 90 minutes drive.
Peyrilles has its own restaurant which is 15 minutes walk or 2 minutes by car. They have a Wednesday lunchtime speciality called Mique (ham on the bone with whole vegetable and a light bread dumpling) which is very popular.
We could go on, but you have to experience this for yourselves!
