150 Year Old Cottage, free bike hire & shop/restaurant within 5 mins walk
Built for a winemaker some 150 years ago, Olive Tree Cottage is less than an hour from Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. It retains much of its old character with huge oak beams, period fireplaces, woodburning stoves and terracotta floors. You will find everything provided to make your holiday carefree and relaxing.
Fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer & microwave. When you arrive you'll find a free welcome pack of fresh bread, butter, pate, cheese, jam, bottled water, tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk and some tasty snacks to go with the beer and bottle of local wine. We also provide an initial supply of hand soap, loo roll, bin bags, cling film, cooking foil & cleaning products including washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets.
For exploring we have a small fleet of up to nine bikes with detachable baskets which are ideal for carrying shopping from the local market or a picnic. Helmets and locks are provided and you'll also find a picnic blanket.
Our online holiday guide on what to see and do, where to shop and eat is frequently updated and you'll find a printed version in the cottage.
Free wifi is available and you can keep up with your favourite tv programmes as we have all the main uk tv channels. There is also a big choice of films on dvd.
Outside in your private secluded garden there is a shaded area under the olive trees for your morning coffee plus lots of space in the sunshine with dining furniture, comfy armchairs and hammocks for lazy sunny afternoons, plus a barbecue.
The floodlit swimming pool is a few steps from your front door and has a sundeck with ample sunbeds and parasols. The pool is shared with two guests of Olive Tree Gite.
Nestling in the Bordeaux wine region between Bergerac and the silver beaches of the Atlantic coast, you will find lots of things to do.
Wine tasting at small family vineyards and grand famous chateaux, canoeing and fishing on the Dordogne, lovely vineyard walks, fabulous shopping in Bordeaux, quaint unspoilt villages, a wealth of wine and history in picturesque Saint Emilion, horse riding, exploring antique and junk shops, bike rides round quiet country lanes.
You won't want to miss one of the bustling street markets for which France is justly famous and we strongly recommend an evening market where you can make a meal of freshly prepared local produce at the pop up restaurants which appear regularly during the summer.
You will be spoilt for places to eat as we have eight good restaurants within 10 minutes drive. You'll be offered the delicious local dishes of duck, steak, lamb and fabulous fresh seafood from the coast. And if you don't want to drive there is our village restaurant which takes about 5-10 minutes walk.
For a great day out you can explore the fabulous beaches of the Atlantic coast and climb Europes highest sand dune at Pyla and perhaps have lunch at our favourite beach café.
