Les Moulins is a charming tradional detached 'pierre' (stone house), set in 3/4 acre of grassed garden with apple trees. It is peacefully situated in the gentle rolling farmland of Calvados, yet only a short drive from the market town of Vire, with a good selection of shops, supermarkets, and restaurants (and of course the Friday market for local produce).
The house is bright, spacious, comfortably furnished, and well equipped - no need to improvise if you are eating in! It has full central heating and an impressive granite fireplace with a large woodburner, for cosy evenings during the winter. In summer the outside space is ideal for children, having 2 large grassed areas, with games, bicycles and toys. Adults can enjoy the beautiful summerhouse, with space for 6 or more to dine - or just relax with a glass of wine.
For days out you are spoilt for choice due to the central location. There are the D-Day beaches to the north, more beaches to the west, and for outdoor activities such as canoeing, Suisse Normande to the east. Other local highlights are Mont St Michel, mediaevel Bayeux (with the world famous tapestry), chateaux, a slate mine, and many farms to visit. There is a golf course nearby, a lake with sailing, kayaks and pedalos, and in Vire an indoor and outdoor swimming pool with water slides.
If you just want to relax indoors, there is satellite TV and a good selection of books, games, CDs, DVDs and videos.
The house is less than an hour from the ferry port of Caen, slightly further from Cherbourg and Le Harvre. (NB -A small discount can be arranged with Brittany Ferries).
Les Moulins has 3 bedrooms - 2 very large doublesand a bunk room. There are also a sofa bed, Z-bed and cot (highchair and stairgate also available) There is a bathroom with shower/bath and 2 further toilets. The spacious kitchen has a table and chairs, and the lounge has sofas, chairs and a further table and chairs. The conservatory is ideal for the afternoon and evening sun, when it is not quite warm enough to stay outside, and also has a dining table and chairs and easy chairs.
All bedlinen, towels, electricity, water, heating and logs are included in the price. We also leave a welcome pack of essentials (including wine and beer - very essential!), and all kitchen and household essentials, from toilet rolls to olive oil, washing up liquid to cling film!
Short breaks available in autumn, winter and spring.
