La Cidrerie is a collection of renovated cider barns,built in the traditional stone of the area,a kilometre from the beautiful Abbaye de La Lucerne,and close to the lovely,child-friendly beaches of Jullouville and Carolles.Apple Cottage sleeps 5/6 and has two bedrooms,lounge,fully-equipped kitchen/diner (with microwave,dishwasher,washing machine,fridge),bathroom with bath and over-bath shower,sep.toilet,sat.TV,woodburner,its own garden,and barbecue.It has a cot,highchair,and stairgates. It is a most beautiful and tranquil place,situated between Granville and Avranches,and within easy reach of the D Day beaches and Mont St Michel.
The owners set aside two blocks of two weeks each to run art courses for a maximum of 10 people on a full-board basis.Please request a separate brochure for these courses.
Granville is a lively fishing and commercial port,with a busy marina,and many seafood restaurants fronting the harbour -and the shopping is very good as well! It also has a casino,and is the birthplace of Christian Dior,whose former home,set on the cliffs above the town,is now a museum and gardens,open to the public.Known as the 'Monaco of the north',the town has an old part - the 'haute ville'- with museums and art galleries,and views over the beaches below.
Avranches is a lovely old city,with a fine cathedral and commanding views over the bay of Mont St Michel and Le Mont itself.
It was Patton's headquarters after D Day,and has many reminders of that period.There is a fine scriptorium with many historical documents.
Taking the hydrofoil from Granville to Jersey makes an interesting day out,and you can spend any spare sterling and practise your English in M & S!
The islands of Chausey are a short boat trip from Granville.Only the main island is inhabited - by local fishermen - and it has some lovely beaches.It is a nature reserve and only cycling is allowed.There are 62 islands at high tide and 365 at low tide!
All the houses are child-friendly and well-equipped with safety devices. Each has two stairgates.l
Having ourselves stayed in houses and gites with blunt knives,an odd assortment of kitchen equipment,and lumpy beds,we have made every effort to make our own house (Orchard Cottage) and the two cottages as comfortable,welcoming,relaxing and inviting as we possibly could. Surroundings are important to us,and to this end all three properties have an array of Hilary's paintings on the walls,and an abundance of books and DVDs.
