The cottage has 2 totally private walled courtyards to the front and rear with garden furniture and has a pleasant lounge area with wood burning stove & a fully fitted kitchen. There are 2 double bedrooms and full bathroom with bath & large shower on the 1st floor and & a large open plan grenier with king size bed & en-suite bathroom with large shower on the top floor.
The walled City of Carcassonne with its many bars & restaurants is no more than 30 minutes away by car. Just outside Carcassonne is a large freshwater lake with man made beach & supervised bathing. An ideal location for a family day out.
The excellent beaches of Narbonne, Valras & Gruissan are 30 to 45 minutes away by car.
The town of Olonzac is close by which has a lively market every Tuesday where you can purchase local wine & produce.
You can take a walk along the Canal du Midi which is close by or even take a boat trip along the canal. At nearby Homps there are numerous canal side bars & restaurants where you can spend a perfect summers evening dining out.
The village of Siran is on the Cathar Trail meaning there are many historic villages nearby such as Minervois, Lastours, Lagrasse & Caunes with their ancient abbeys, Cathar castles & monuments.
Siran is on the edge of the Mountaine Noire range which is ideal for those wishing to explore an area of outstanding natural beauty & is perfect for walking & biking holidays. The mountains have many trails & routes to suite all levels of walkers, bikers & hikers & the region has spectacular waterfalls, ancient caves & caverns.
Wine tours are available in the area & we can arrange for you to be picked up from Hortensia Cottage to go on a wine tour, taste the wines & enjoy an excellent lunch.
