Les Orchidees is one of 2 luxury gites in the grounds of La Greze. La Greze is located just outside the beautiful old village of Castelnau de Montmiral in the Tarn. Set in 17 acres of rolling meadows & woodland, there are glorious views across the valley to the Foret de Gresigne with Castelnau in the foreground. The village is less than a km. away and has 2 restaurants and several shops, including a small supermarket.
Les Orchidee sleeps 2 people, the second gite sleeps 2-4, but they can be connected to accommodate parties of up to 6 people (NB - price is for 1 gite only). Each has a private terrace which catches the morning sun but is shady in the heat of the day, a fully equipped kitchen, lounge (1 with double sofa bed), bathroom & double bedroom. A comment from a recent guest says it all - "A delightful gite, beautifully decorated. Wonderful setting and stunning views".
There is a 12m by 6m saline pool for the use of our guests who are also welcome to wander through the meadows of wild orchids or pick fruit for a light snack.
When we converted the "grange" into gites we used our own experiences of staying in gites to incorporate the best & avoid the mistakes of others. If you are looking for old world charm, complete with the usual drafts, dust & cobwebs, then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for comfort, functionality, all (or at least most) mod. cons., peace and quiet, with stunning views, then this is place for you.
We offer a warm welcome to all our guests. Our house is 50 meters away, close enough that we are on hand when you need us but far enough away that you will feel you have your own private space. You will often see us around as we tend the grounds, but the only time we will intrude is when we come to the pool to take a well earned dip at the end of the day. On the other hand, if you need information about where to go, what to do, or just fancy a bit of company, we're always open to a chat.
The Area
Castelnau de Montmiral is situated between the Tarn and the Aveyron rivers, close to the "golden triangle". The north Tarn is a land of rolling hills patterned with vineyards, of forests, rivers and dramatic gorges, of medieval hilltop villages & pretty riverside towns. The pace of life here is leisurely and relaxed; despite new autoroutes into the area, little seems to have changed in a hundred years.
La Greze is a perfect base from which to explore the local bastide villages. Each one is different, with its own character and history, its own bars, restaurants & cafes where you can sample the excellent local cuisine and wines. Through the summer there are many activities in and around the towns & villages including jazz festivals, classical music and rock concerts, markets and fairs. For the more energetic, the nearby Fôret de Grésigne, full of rare birds, deer and wild boar, offers fabulous walks, cycle tracks and stunning views. The city of Albi, now a World Heritage Site, is only 25 mins away.
