Superb gite in fabulous vineyard setting with huge pool. Ideal for families

Domaine de Barthe is an ancient wine domaine in the heart of the Minervois and Corbiere wine regions. The gites are set around a south facing courtyard overlooking the Alaric mountains and surrounded by our own vines. The gites can be hired individually or, because we can accommodate up to 16 people across the 3 gites, we feel Domaine de Barthe is ideal for small groups - so why not ask your close family or best friends to join you for a memorable holiday?
Within the complex we have a games ‘barn’ with T.V. for playing DVD’s, a lending library, table football, tennis table, darts, board games, puzzles and a variety of children’s toys from dolls to lego. Externally there is a large ‘group’ barbecue area (gites also have individul BBQs) with giant chess and a petanque (French bowls) court. In addition there is a superb 14m x 6m in-ground swimming pool set in a sheltered sunken walled garden with an extensive tiled patio and sunbeds.
The local village (Douzens) is approx. ½ mile away and has everything for your convenience (bakers, small village supermarket, post office and restaurant/bar). There is an abundance of things to see and do in this beautiful unspoilt region including leisure lakes, a golf course, historic and picturesque villages and plenty of local produce markets.
Situated in the heart of the wine region, we are perfectly placed to explore this unspoilt area. Only 35 miles from the Mediterranean coastline where you can relax on miles of quiet sandy beaches, visit traditional fishing villages, have lunch in a lively marina or wander around pretty villages.
The area is also famous for it’s Cathar castles and the spectacular mediaeval Cité of Carcassonne (a 15 minute drive away) offering an enclosed city of shops, restaurants, ancient buildings, cobbled streets and double ramparts to explore.
The Canal du Midi - the famous World Heritage canal, dating back to the 17th century, runs nearby to us and you can walk or hire bikes and cycle along it’s picturesque banks, take a boat out or just sit at one of the restaurants and enjoy a cool drink or taste one of the speciality regional ‘plat du jour’ (meal of the day).
You can also indulge in the regions main attraction – the wines! There are many ‘wine caves’ locally offering you the chance to educate your palate on the various exceptional Reds, Whites and Roses by having a wine tasting and buying bottles (or cases!) at very reasonable prices.
Alternatively, if you just want to spend time ‘chilling out’ at Domaine de Barthe, in addition to relaxing around the pool, BBQ area or games barn, you can also take a stroll amongst the vines or walk down the ‘Plane tree’ avenue to the river Aude (approx. 200 metres away) where you can do a spot of fishing, cool off or just listen to the chorus of bird song in this otherwise peaceful location. If you fancy a night off from cooking or going out, we can also organise a catered evening at the complex or arrange a pizza delivery from a local town!
