3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms/sleeps 6; loads to see and do; great walking and cycling
Take the ferry safely from Newhaven to Dieppe, then a 20-minute drive to Torcy le Petit nestling in the pretty valley of the Varenne, along a cycle route. The house is tastefully decorated, all the beds have foam mattresses and it's great for children - straight staircase, showers and loos upstairs and downstairs, big bath, outdoor toys for all ages, secure garden, cot/high chair, near to beaches with children's play areas and restaurant and supermarket just down the road. Outside there is a small garden with different areas, a herb garden and a permanent barbecue.
There are masses of places to visit, including Dieppe with its famous and colourful market, the Château, seawater leisure complex, pirate ship and much, much more.
Activities with children include trout and sea fishing, boat trips along the coast, karting, Cité de la Mer at Dieppe, the Rêve de Bisons at Muchedent, the Lac de Caniel, Artmazia, the Bayeux Tapestry.
Travel a little further, and you can see the stunning scenery and abbeys of the Seine Valley; the beautiful city of Rouen with its old town, museums, art galleries, cathedral and fantastic shopping; the many gardens and châteaux of Normandy (try Monet's garden at Giverny; the Parc du Bois des Moutiers; the Zoological park at Clères).
Honfleur, the beautiful seaside town and "cradle of Impressionism", is well worth a visit. Fécamp and Etretat, Veules-les-Roses, St Valéry-en-Caux and Le Tréport are just some of the many pretty places along the coast. You can also travel as far as Bayeux, Lisieux and the D-day Landing Beaches.
You will be just 20 minutes to the nearest seaside where there are beautiful coves, cliff walks, swimming, kite-flying, adventure playgrounds with sand and mini-golf, and delicious seafood.
This part of Normandy is simply made for walking and cycling. Look out for the Avenues Vertes and enjoy the verdant countryside and wonderful views.
Enjoy the tastes of Normandy too: apples, cider and Calvados; Camembert and the other cheeses of the region; meat and poultry à la Normande or Dieppois; local fish; moules frites and wonderful sea food - Dieppe is famous for scallops. The Quai Henri IV in Dieppe is full of restaurants, most with children's menus, and there are loads of other places to eat to suit all tastes, including the Ilot Pirate in Dieppe, a brasserie and pizzeria with a covered, safe themed play area for children, with slides, sledges, inflatables, electric karts, swimming pool with balloons and baby area.
