POOL, WI-FI. Visit Mervent-Vouvant forest and hire canoes, kayaks, bikes...
Les Hirondelles has been finished in the traditional cream coloured plaster over thick, stone walls beneath a low sloping roof covered in the local curved tiles. Car parking is on a gravelled area outside the front door. You can enter through the front door and then along a short passage, or from the patio through the french windows, into a cool, tiled dining/lounge area with settee and arm chairs. The well-equipped, open plan kitchen is at one end of the lounge/dining area and all with a high, wood beamed ceiling going up to the apex of Les Hirondelles. The stairs mount directly out of the lounge to the mezzanine floor of the romantic low beamed double bedroom. Returning to the front door via a doorway hidden behind the stairs, you will find the large shower room with shower cubicle, wash basin and W.C. and washing machine. The twin bedded room is nearby. Both bedrooms have ample storage and hanging space.
Les Hirondelles has its own private garden and patio where you may sit and enjoy a meal and a glass of wine while you soak up the peace and tranquillity of the setting.
Les Hirondelles shares the fenced pool (open from mid May to mid Sept.), surrounded by a terracotta coloured terrace and ample space for sun worshippers, with our other two properties. To one side of the pool is a gazebo with a table tennis table and an open area where even football nets are provided!
Our three properties are in a small hamlet near La Châtaigneraie, south of the Loire valley, with its famous chateaux and wines, and between the cities of Nantes and Poitiers. The original farmhouse and barns, which were built between 150 and 200 years ago, have been renovated and modernised over the last few years to become Les Hirondelles, Le Rossignol and Les Lavandes.
In the nearby beautiful Mervent-Vouvant forest you can hire canoes, kayaks, sailing boats, surf-boards, pedal-boats, mountain bikes etc. or go to the Pierre Brune family amusement park or to the Natur’Zoo. You may also go walking, horse riding, fishing, karting or try an aerial adventure course in the trees, go up in a micro-lite or go bungee-jumping. A little further afield is Maillezais where you could take a punt to explore the green waterways of Le Marais Poitevin after visiting the abbey. At the coast you could visit La Rochelle, with its fortified harbour, or relax on the beach at La Tranche-sur-Mer and other coastal towns and villages. You can spend a whole day at Puy du Fou being delighted by their dramatic re-enactments of an invasion by Vikings or Roman gladiator fights and chariot racing in a huge coliseum, or, if the history and the future of film is your thing, then a visit to Futuroscope near Poitiers is a must. For those who enjoy a local weekly market, there is a one at Fontenay-le-Comte, selling food, clothing, jewellery and some unusual gifts, and larger ones at Niort and La Rochelle.
Tourist tax of 0.44€ pppn (aged over 12) and a security deposit of £200 payable with the balance.
